Making space for the arts and community
The Arts & Community Infrastructure (ACI) Foundation is a new non-profit organization with the goal of preventing the closure and displacement of arts and community organizations. We are working towards becoming non-profit landlords for the arts. We aim to preserve spaces for arts and community use, prevent gentrification, and prioritize accessibility, environmental sustainability, and security of tenure across BC. We will be starting in Greater Victoria, within the unceded territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) people, now known as the Songhees and Xʷsepsəm (Esquimalt) Nations. We are laying the groundwork for permanent, affordable infrastructure that empowers artists and organizers while serving the greater public good.
Founded in 2024, the ACI Foundation is advancing a new approach to space stewardship—one that stabilizes rents, restores lost cultural spaces, and secures long-term access for communities. As a registered charity, we will mobilize community-driven financing and values-based investment, ensuring these spaces remain accessible, affordable, and thriving for generations to come.

Those of us who are uninvited settlers on these lands respectfully seek opportunities to unlearn oppressive, colonial practices that we have benefited from, and to follow the lead of the Indigenous stewards of these lands in returning to a sustainable way of life. We are committed to supporting Indigenous self-determination, supporting the decolonization of our society and institutions, and questioning existing power structures.
